My mask covers the cracks of a
barely healed heart,
held in place by counterfeit adhesive.
Liquid courage plugs the holes
of titanic depression,
while denial battles to keep it afloat.
The novelty of new toys,
wears off after a few sweaty
playdates.
Boredom leads to indulgent excess,
all the while secretly longing
for the scent of an old teddy bear.
